Beyond Pages in a Book: Rethinking the Electronic Health Record

Electronic Health Records (EHRs) are far more than digital filing cabinets. Yet many still approach them with a paper-based mindset—like flipping through scanned charts or scrolling through static Word documents. But an EHR is not a digital binder. It is not a series of saved files. It is not like pages in a book. Health informatics challenges us to think differently. From Commodore to Clinical Systems This year, I turn 40. When I started university in the late 1990s registration already moved to an online system. Professors were rapidly embracing the use of PowerPoint to create their lecture presentations.
